WhatsApp is Developing Threaded Message Replies for Better Chat Organization
WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will improve how users interact in chats—threaded message replies. This long-awaited addition is currently in development and, once completed, will be available across one-on-one chats, group conversations, communities, and channels.
How Threaded Replies Work
With threaded replies, when you respond to a quoted message, the reply stays linked to the original message. This creates an organized thread where all responses to a specific message are grouped together. Instead of scrolling through multiple messages in a busy chat, users can open a thread and follow the conversation more easily.
Unlike some platforms like Reddit, where threads appear directly under messages, WhatsApp’s implementation may require users to tap a reply to enter the thread. It remains to be seen how well this will work in practice, but it is expected to make managing conversations in active group chats much simpler.
Why This Feature Matters
Group chats on WhatsApp often become overwhelming, with multiple conversations happening at once. By introducing message threads, WhatsApp aims to make discussions easier to follow, ensuring that important replies don’t get lost in a flood of new messages.
This feature will be especially useful for:
- Large community groups where multiple discussions happen simultaneously.
- Business and work-related chats, helping teams keep discussions organized.
- Casual conversations where users want to keep track of a specific topic without scrolling through hundreds of unrelated messages.
WhatsApp has not yet announced a release date for threaded replies, and since the feature is still in early development, it may take some time before it becomes widely available.
