– Update Now!
Date: March 17, 2025
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a high-risk security warning for Apple device users, urging them to update their software immediately. The advisory highlights severe vulnerabilities in older versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Vision OS, and Safari that could leave devices exposed to cyber threats.
Who is at Risk?
Users running the following outdated software versions are vulnerable:
- iPhones & iPads: iOS and iPadOS versions prior to 18.1.1 and 17.7.2
- MacBooks & iMacs: macOS versions prior to 15.1.1
- Apple Vision Pro: Vision OS versions prior to 2.1.1
- Safari Browser: Safari versions prior to 18.1.1
If your Apple device is running any of these versions, you should update it immediately to protect against potential cyberattacks.
What Are the Risks?
According to CERT-In, these vulnerabilities can allow hackers to:
- Execute malicious code on your device remotely
- Steal sensitive information such as passwords and personal data
- Launch Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attacks to inject harmful scripts into websites
- Exploit security flaws in Intel-based Mac systems
Apple has already released security patches to address these vulnerabilities. However, users who delay updates remain at risk of cyber exploitation.
How to Protect Your Apple Device?
To stay safe, follow these steps to update your device immediately:
For iPhones & iPads
- Go to Settings → General → Software Update
- If an update is available, tap Download and Install
- Restart your device after installation
For MacBooks & iMacs
- Click on the Apple menu → System Settings
- Select Software Update and install any available updates
For Safari Browser
- Open the App Store on your Mac
- Click on Updates and install any available Safari updates
If your device is too old to receive updates, consider upgrading to a newer model to ensure ongoing security.
Final Warning: Update Now!
Hackers actively exploit outdated software, and delaying updates could expose your device to severe security threats. The Indian government strongly urges Apple users to update their devices immediately to stay protected.
